“Honey it such a great day let’s not go out!” I said. I was truly enjoying spending time with my wife. The thought of going to the supermarket, even though it was only a short drive away, was bothersome. I was in the perfect cocoon and I did not want to leave.

“Do we have anything in the house?" she asked.

“Well, we have asparagus...,” I said. And then inspiration came.

So here is what happens when you are too comfortable to leave the house and all you have is some day old bread, a pound of asparagus, and a fine bottle of red wine.

I would embrace the "Cucina Povera" style of cooking: a few simple fresh ingredients cooked together to render a great dish.

The evening rolled by slowly, in the best of ways. While dinner cooked, Billie Holiday serenaded us as we sat by the window and watched the sea thrashing about distance.

My wife smiled at me across the table as we dined.

After dinner, we danced around the living room to Etta James.

It was a perfect evening.
